Hey Beer Fans!

Everyone quit what you’re doing and run outside and look at the sun (well, not DIRECTLY at it). Summer’s officially here and will probably be officially gone by tomorrow or the next day, so enjoy it while you can. The beer of choice is always whatever your favorite beer is, but think LIGHT. No, that’s not LITE, kiddos, just “ligher” beers. And that doesn’t necessarily mean light in color either. There are light beers with heavy bodies and dark beers with light bodies. You know what I mean. Right now I’m thinking along the lines of Midnight Sun Old Whiskers Wheat, Hoegaarden Wit or even some of my homebrewed HAC that I haven’t brewed in, oh, five years or so!

Last night, due to some unforeseen mechanical malfunction in the Fermentomobile, as I was driving down the street on my way home from work, the wheel suddenly jerked hard right and I squeeled into the Brown Jug parking lot on Northern Lights. Some internal demon had taken control and in some sort of heat-induced trance, I floated in and regained semi-consciousness in front of the reach in cooler. Like a video tape jerking along in half-speed, my mind did a subconscious scan of the myriad of beer choices assaulting my temptations and found myself walking out with a half rack of Session from Full Sail Brewing Company. That’s good schtuff on hot days. It goes well with outside chores.

Here’s the Haps……

Café Amsterdam:

Alaskan Brewing Company’s Coffee Brown should be on by tonight. This is one from the Rough Draft Series that I’m itching to try. Goes good with ham and eggs, according to Pajak

Alaskan’s Raspberry Stout should be on by next week

Alaskan’s Boogie Bitter should be on by next week

Midnight Sun Brewing Company

Brewhouse tours are EVERY Friday night

Greed (a Belgian style single) releases at the brewery this Friday night between 5-7 PM

SubZero Microlounge

Greed pre-release gig 5-7 pm TONIGHT (6/28)

Humpy’s

No beer list from Master Publican Kristoff this week

Goose

Go introduce yourself to the Goose’s new brewer Clay who hails from Reno, Nevada after a stint with the B&J chain of brewpubs. I met him at the Café A gig on Monday night and he’s energetic and rarin’ to go

Kinley’s Restaurant

Don’t forget the July 9th MSBC Beer Dinner there. RSVP if it hasn’t already filled up. It’s $60 bucks, features six beers and five food courses.

Tap Root Café

MSBC IPA, Brown and Hefe on tap, alonog with Guinness. Open Mic is every Tuesday night from 7:30 to close. Talked to Rebecca at the Café A gig on Monday night and she sez they plan on doing tastings at least once a month. She’s talking about building a portable long and narrow bar to roll out into the middle of the floor, ditch the tables and have everyone stand around and drink during the tastings making it much more conversational.

Glacier Brewhouse

Beam ESB (an ESB conditioned in a retired Jim Beam barrel) went on today. It won’t last. The Imperial Blonde is another good choice.

What did I miss? I know I’m missing a beer……

Oh..bonus round! Someone asked me to recount my theory on “extra beer.” From the vault, here goes….

“There is no such thing as an ‘extra” beer. I obtain each beer intending fully to consume it at one point or another. If I do not consume it right now, I might consume it later today. If I don’t consume it later today, I might consume it tomorrow. In any case, I will consume all of my beer, God willing and if my liver holds out. Wait. Never mind the liver part. I have a spare. Never mind the God part. Should I die before consuming my beer, pry open my jaw and pour it down my throat and if that’s impossible, pour it on my grave. Now kindly put the beer down and back away from the cooler. Should I feel compelled to OFFER you a beer as a friend and for the sake of camaraderie, then you may have one, but you have to be able to pronounce it first, and wipe that forsaken Budweiser smirk off your face.”
