As I continue to struggle with the software used to publish the weekly blog, sometimes things go so out into left field that I have to start over. I know what the problem is. Lack of beer. I write the blog at night with plenty of loaded mugs, but I always publish early in the morning before work and coffee just doesn’t fuel the blog like beer does. No matter. In the blog I just published, I noticed a fine mess about mid-way down and also noted that somehow the listing of the stellar beers that are coming in thanks to Rob Weller of Specialty Imports got cut out. This list is just too impressive to leave out, so I’m reposting below. I’ve got a whole box of some of these goodies cocked and ready to go as I head to Hope this weekend to drink beer in the glorious spring sunshine. My suggestion is that you head out to your own personal paradise, fully stocked with your favorite fermented delights. Now’s the time to enjoy Alaska before it’s trampled flat with the coming onslaught of tourists that are a vital part of our economy, but crowd our streets, clog our breweries and under-appreciate the noble efforts of our tireless local brewers. There will be no rest for the weary from here on out.
Because our local breweries are focusing more now on filling their fermenters with the mainstream, flagship stuff and the interesting stuff is tucked away deep in the recesses of most breweries, you’ll see more coverage of non-local stuff here, not because our local beers aren’t interesting, but I don’t want to beat them to death either. So, the efforts of our local distributors to bring in interesting new stuff from around the nation and around the globe are important and appreciated, at least by this white-haired, finicky beer lover with a writing problem.
